Bummers Flats Floodplain and Wetland Habitat Restoration
This multi-year project will restore 50 hectares of wetland in a floodplain along the Kootenay River
The project will re-activate natural floodplain processes that were disturbed by engineered dikes. Habitat will be restored for a diversity of wetland species, such as waterfowl, songbirds, raptors, amphibians, bats, elk, and beaver. Suitable habitat for Endangered northern leopard frog will also be created.
ʔaq̓am is leading with Indigenous knowledge that will inform restoration.
