Invitation to provide input on the Quinsam River plan

A’Tlegay Fisheries Society received funding from the FWCP to complete the Quinsam River Fish Habitat Restoration Plan. The goal is to provide a list of achievable and prioritized habitat restoration projects. The Plan, led by A-Tlegay Fisheries Society in partnership with Ecofish Research, aligns with FWCP’s Campbell River Campbell River Watershed Action Plan.

You are invited to provide feedback by February 2018.

The Plan will benefit a range of species including Coho, Chinook, Pink, Chum, Steelhead, Dolly Varden, and resident Trout. Habitat for these fish species have been altered by both the Quinsam Diversion Dam and Quinsam Storage Dam.

The Restoration Plan will focus on the Quinsam River, upstream of the Hatchery fence, to the outlet of Lower Quinsam Lake and included a background review to determine potential field investigations, completed in summer 2017. In fall 2017, a focused field investigation examined a number of sites, and most of the 24-km section of the Quinsam River was traversed.

So far, the A-Tlegay Fisheries Society has developed a list of potential projects that identifies target species and life stage, process improvements, areas of habitat enhanced, as well as possible risks and limitations.
