Revelstoke Turtle Nesting Site Restoration Operational Trial

The aim of this project is to restore Western Painted Turtle nesting habitat at Red Devil Hill near Revelstoke by vegetation management, nesting substrate replacement, and slope angle reduction.

This project will:

  • reduce nest-site shading by trimming adjacent trees;
  • remove dense vegetation in the nesting area, which impedes nest construction;
  • create additional flat nesting terrain lost to earlier road construction activities; and
  • improve egg development and hatchling survival.
